Shanghai China
Tyco, trading as TIS (Thorn) of Tyco Fire Protection Services (Thorn) Hong Kong in China, has been awarded two large contracts by Shanghai Public Security Bureau in 2009 and 2010 for the expansion of their SCATS Traffic Control System in Shanghai. These SCATS expansion projects are part of the vast infrastructure enhancement in Shanghai, preparing the city for the World Expo in 2010, which covers the supply of 540 traffic controllers, software upgrades, spare parts and technical services.
The success of these contract awards affirmed Tyco’s market leadership in the traffic control system in China, in particular Shanghai. The customer’s recognition of Tyco’s technical services and the value of the SCATS system as an effective traffic management tool are reflected in the continuously increasing number of SCATS intersections in Shanghai, from below 400 in 2003, to over 1,300 in 2009 and to over 1,800 when the controllers from these expansion contracts are all installed.
The Shanghai Expo Project Office, working together with the Shanghai PSB, is the authority responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of the traffic management system in Shanghai during the World Expo from May 1 to Oct 31, 2010. According to the Shanghai PSB, they will keep reviewing the traffic conditions to see if any further upgrades and/or expansions are necessary. Tyco is looking forward to providing full support and wishes Shanghai a very successful World Expo.
